Fundraising
The Church of the Ascension receives no funding from either the Church of England or the Diocese of Europe. It is entirely reliant on the generosity of those attending or visiting, both to support its activities and to maintain the beautiful building.
We very much appreciate donations to the church made during the Sunday collections and through our online donation link, which help support both the regular running costs including providing accommodation for the visiting chaplains, and maintenance of the church building.
The Building and Restoration
In recent years we have has address several issues affecting the listed building. We tackle some tasks through work parties with the help of skilled members of the congregation. Such tasks include cleaning and oiling the wooden church doors, cleaning and polishing the marble and restoring the stone plinth. For the full restoration of one of the stained glass windows, works to the roof and bell tower and improving external drainage, we had no alternative but to pay skilled craftspeople
Funds have been raised through donations but also through a variety of events – a residential holiday retreat, an international art project with exhibitions on Lake Como and London Como Art Project as well as sales of second hand books and silk scarves.
Our vision is to be a place that welcomes all who come through our doors, whether to worship, find a few moments of stillness or seek fellowship.
